Learn to play piano

I am teaching a non-credit piano class through the continuing education arm of Maui College. It’s the only college in the University of Hawaii System that is offering such a course. UH Maui College’s room 104 in Kupa’a Building has the highest concentration of pianos in a single space on the island.

Why am I giving this class? I have seen what my students in the for-credit classes get out of learning to play the piano. They become confident of their ability to play any music they choose and empowered to perform in front of others.

Anne was very enthusiastic and believed that everyone in the class had the potential to perform well in this class regardless of the amount of experience we all had. I’ve learned a lot this semester and the area I improved on was specifically on reading notes and being able to sight read. This piano class was much more educational than any other piano class I have taken during my previous semesters. I would absolutely recommend this course to anybody who would like to learn piano. Have you always wanted to learn to play the piano but didn’t have the time? Now you can learn the basics in three two-hour sessions. It will be enough for you to decide whether you’d like to continue with a two-credit class at Maui College (mid-August to December 2014) or take individual lessons. Either way, you can get started on this journey of making music.

Have you taken lessons long ago but want to get back to playing the piano? Do you play the piano but want coaching on how to play your favorite song? Whatever your level or experience, you will enjoy learning in a class environment, the support of peers and what it’s like to make music together.

You will learn how to read notes, identify and play every key on the piano, play a song by yourself, play a piece with others, and get enough practice to decide next steps. You get receive reference materials to allow you to continue at your own pace after the course is over.

Most importantly, you can have access to the new digital pianos located elsewhere on campus and in Lahaina. So there is no need to invest in your own instrument now.
