During the four hour mash-up medley marathon, I conferred with six other ukulele players that mash-ups shouldn’t just be about songs that have similar chords or rhythms. There has to be a rhyme and reason to choosing songs for a mash-up. I introduced my new mash-up of “It’s So Easy to Fall in Love” Linda Ronstadt style with “Breaking Up is Hard to Do” while our apple cake was baking in the new oven.

Why is falling in love so easy but breaking up is so hard?
Not only is breaking up hard to do, sometimes you get a hangover that lingers for days, weeks, months, or even years. In a similar vein, getting hitched is easy and inexpensive compared to getting divorced.
I created the mash-up long-hand, first by finding the lyrics of both songs and inserting chord names in brackets in line with lyrics, changing font size and colour. I tested the first draft in my ukulele mash-up marathon in London And thereafter with the larger ukulele club. I edited it for clarity and readability, and tried it with different ukulele groups in Cambridge (Massachusetts), Waltham (MA), and Dorchester (MA).
The result is something we will debut in Milton, MA at the Second Annual Blue Hills Great Estates Fall Foliage Weekend at Eustis Estate, the newest addition to Historic New England, on Saturday 3rd November 2018. Some fifty ukulele players will play and sing outdoors if weather permits.
