What’s the harm in adding an easy chord like Am or C7 to a three-chord song? It gives it more flavour and colour. For the first Thursday in May, we are venturing into four chord songs that are fun and manageable, as part of our weekly Three Chord Thursdays and Three. It’s the sixth consecutive one-hour song session in the series.
We have selected 14 songs that use chords known as common chord progression. The bolded titles refer to song sheets that can easily be transposed, thanks to Jim Carey’s generous effort in making his website http://www.ozbcoz.com available to all. We can change the key (transpose), change the layout with respect to line spacing, font size and format, edit the lyrics, add and customise chords, and even save your default preferences.
- Blowing in the Wind – Bob Dylan (G and G7 are interchangeable)
- Carolina On My Mind – James Taylor
- Carrie Anne – The Hollies
- Hey Soul Sister – Train
- Hit the Road Jack – Ray Charles
- I Can’t Get No Satisfaction – Rolling Stones
- I’m a Believer – The Monkees
- I Won’t Back Down – Tom Petty
- Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door – Bob Dylan – good for relay
- No Woman No Cry – Bob Marley
- Runaround Sue – Dion and the Belmonts
- The Circle Game – Joni Mitchell
- Wagon Wheel – Old Crow Medicine Show (version in G)
- With or Without You – U2 (better lower)
To participate, please first register in advance to get the ZOOM meeting ID and LINK. You can either click on the meeting LINK or copy/paste the meeting ID into your ZOOM app or new ZOOM browser.
We welcome you to arrive early (half-hour to 20 minutes early) to do a sound and visual check, chit chat with others, and do the line-up. We start promptly at 3 pm EDT with warm-up exercises.
We have a tradition of wearing sunglasses after the warm-up for a group recitation.
We record these sessions to learn and remember. These unlisted videos on Youtube cannot be found or searched, and not meant for distribution. After the song session, all registered participants will receive an e-mail with the option of requesting for these videos. It helps to hear yourself if you have performed to hear how you sounded. If you do not wish to appear, please switch off your video.
For the best experience in ZOOM, please close other applications and windows. Hard-wired Internet (into your router) is better than WIFI. Use the biggest and most power computer device: a desktop computer is better than a laptop which is better than an iPad which is better than an iPhone. If you’re not in an entirely quiet location, best to use headset (earphones) and microphone.
To allow others to see you, please ensure light falls on your face and not on your computer or device screen. If you plan to perform, do ensure your ZOOM audio setting is set to ORIGINAL SOUND, otherwise, ZOOM treats any other noise (including your instrument) as interference and playing and singing means your ukulele strums are clipped.
