Congratulations to Bruce for winning the contest for the best chord placements for the following medley of extracts of lyrics from popular songs on Thursday 30th July 2020. Here is his four-page song sheet. See below for guidelines of this contest.
Each Thursday we gather online for an hour of singing and playing music, of songs of a particular theme, an era or genre or topic. On Thursday July 30, 2020, we continue with 60’s songs that have not been chosen in previous two sessions.
Submission Guidelines
- Chord placement: assign chords to the lyrics in the above “Reflections of a Boomer”
- Submit a song sheet that’s easy to read, whether inline (chord names in the same line as lyrics) or not (chord names and/or chord diagrams above the lyrics), with chord diagrams on the same page. Avoid difficult and awkward chords that requiring barring or four fingers.
- All text in “Reflections of a Boomer” are used, no more, no less, just as is (verbatim) but the choice of key does not have to be in the original version of the song
- E-mail Anne Ku no later than 24 hours before the song session with an attachement to a PDF (preferrably) or Word document.
- Lead(yourself) or appoint someone to sing / play the song in the same song session.
Three Chord Thursday starts promptly at 3 pm EDT / 8 pm BST / 9 pm UTC/ 9 am HST. On average, we can fit 10 songs in the hour. Performers introduce the songs while the song sheet is getting shared on screen. Meanwhile, everyone else is muted. At the end of the song, when the screen is unshared, everyone unmutes to applaud.
PRIZES
- The winner gets two gift vouchers, each entitling the recipient (the winner or anyone the winner gives it to) to attend one one-hour workshop (class in Zoom) given by Anne Ku in August 2020. See list of courses below.
- The runner up gets one such gift voucher.
The following video was the only one I could find online that has put the extracted lyrics in “Reflections of a Boomer” into a song. BUT the original melodies are lost as a result. Can you do something better? The idea behind the Three Chord Thursday Challenge is to use three chords (or as few as possible) to use the lyrics in their original songs — a medley of sorts.
