Thursday 13th January 2022
3 pm EST (20:00 GMT, Noon PST, 10 am HST)
Anne Ku will welcome and introduce the instructors, workshops, and the schedule.
At 3:10 pm EST, Bruce Cooke (MI) will give the first 20 minutes of “Making Song Sheets For Ukulele Strummers” and continue in a breakout room. Subtitle: how to create a song sheet with your own personal touch, to convey much more than the lyrics and chords.
You can personalize playing music by making and collecting your own readable song sheets. You don’t need prior training in music. Choose appropriate elements of song sheets from clearly described options. Use online tools to search and download and store elements and complete song sheets.
Bruce will demonstrate the creation of an attractive readable song sheet with online tools. Participants will arrange text lyrics, ukulele chord fret patterns, and appropriate graphics in shareable song sheets.
3:30 pm EST (20:30 GMT, 12:30 PM PST, 10:30 am HST)
Breakout room for Bruce to continue his song sheet workshop.
Main room: Paul Malaspina (HI) will give the 15-20 minutes of “Harmonica Appreciation For Everyone” and continue with “Train-style Harmonica” in a breakout room.
Gain a general understanding of the harmonica types, music theory, and hear some of the great players in short video shared. Suitable for those not interested in playing harmonica themselves. [If you’re interested in playing the harmonica, follow Paul into a breakout room at the end of this workshop for the “Train-style Harmonica” workshop.]
Paul will show a powerpoint style overview and play a few clips of expert players for explanation (time estimated 15-20 minutes).
3:50 pm EST (20:50 GMT, 12:50 PM PST, 10:50 am HST)
Breakout room opens for Paul’s harmonica workshop, for those interested in learning to play the harmonica, “getting” the train sound is key to skill progression especially for blues, country and rock – where harmonica is commonly played in the cross harp or second position. Learn breathing, chord and other techniques. Suitable only for those planning or thinking of playing harmonica. Paul will show a 2-minute video and spend most of the time demonstrating train-style harmonica.
Main room: Jennifer Bross (NJ) will give a taste of “Busy Bodies” – a low impact all over body work out set to fun music that makes you want to move. We use light weights, chair, tube bands and a ball. For this sample class please have a chair and a pillowcase ready!
Regular physical exercise is one of the most important things you can do for your health. It can improve brain health, help with weight management, reduce disease, strengthen your bones and muscles, improve your ability to do every day activities and improve your mood!
While all these workshops are happening, Anne Ku will be monitoring the CHAT box to answer questions about upcoming music classes, including assessment of your skill level and class recommendations. Bruce Boreham (IT) will be available in CHAT to arrange a meeting in a breakout room for assessment for vocal coaching.
