On Thursday 29th December 2022, the last Zoom session of the year, we invite you to our annual ukulele jeopardy game. There are prizes to be won, not necessarily all by the winning team. At some point, if you decide your team cannot win, you may have to choose to lose.
We met on Thursday 5th January 2022 to announce the prize distribution after the warm-up lesson of chord choreography. We introduced the new themes for 2023 and explained how to participate actively or passively in 3 Chord Thursday.
Who can participate in the game, in one of the five teams, and get a chance at winning a prize? Everyone who already has the Zoom link, either as paid subscribers to 3 Chord Thursday, registered students in Autumn 2022, or purchasers of books (including Fun with Uke) who filled out the Autumn 2022 Registration Form can actively participate.
Everyone else can WATCH!

Participants are requested to enter Zoom BEFORE 3 PM EST to get randomly assigned into one of five teams. You will get to know each other in the breakout rooms.
- Choose a team name (short and sweet)
- Choose a spokesperson for the team
- Figure out how to communicate with one another during the game (e.g. via a Whatsapp Group, via TEXT, Facebook Messenger)
- Learn about each other’s strengths and weaknesses: chord vocabulary, singing ability, knowledge of songs, music theory, etc.
- Finish a short crossword puzzle together
Rules of the Game
- The starting team will be the one whose name is randomly drawn from a hat.
- The team spokesperson chooses one of the five categories (starting at 100 points). The questions in each category must be answered from the top (the lowest number of points).
- If the team answers correctly, it scores and gets to go again. On the second turn, once answered correctly and the team scores, the turn passes to the next team (drawn out of a hat). The next team can choose the next question in the same category or a different category starting at the top (the lowest number of points).
- If the answer is wrong, the points will be deducted from the team’s score.
As soon as you donate a prize (minimum value $30) to this annual game, you will be added to the 3 Chord Thursday subscriber list and receive e-mails of the Zoom link to participate in upcoming song sessions in 2022.
BONUS! Order a PDF of the new book “Fun with Uke” with 24 nursery rhymes and illustrations — and you get to participate in the game. Don’t WAIT!

What is Ukulele Jeopardy?
The late Alex Trebek (video tribute below) made this popular televised game an exercise in mental gymnastics. We adapted it for group collaboration, especially in spontaneous communication with other members of your team in Zoom, such as with people you’ve never met or interacted with in your life. We have categories like chords, technique, terminology, songs, and other trivia.
Learn the different ways to play (pluck, strum) and modulate the famous Jeopardy Game tune called “Think!” (Download 4-page PDF of four different versions) and choose one that you like. Watch the video below for inspiration. Anyone who has subscribed to 3 Chord Thursday and received a Zoom link can participate.
