Fingerstyle Ukulele Showcase

Curious about the NEW music intentionally AND specifically written for the ukulele? As an accompanying instrument, the ukulele can help us sing in tune and play in sync. As a solo instrument, there are plenty of transcriptions and arrangements made for the ukulele. But music composed with the ukulele in mind? Do you know any?

Much of what we play in 3 Chord Thursday and at other ukulele clubs is NOT written for the ukulele. We use the ukulele to accompany our singing. However, as a solo instrument, the ukulele has a character of its own when fingerpicked with the correct technique. Listen to the ukulele on its own.

The term fingerstyle ukulele refers to using your right hand fingers to pick or pluck the individual strings of your ukulele and produce beautiful tones. Typically you are reading from notation or tablature (tab or tabs), the latter being easier than the former because the numbers correspond to the frets to press with your left hand fingers.

Fingerstyle Ukulele Showcase is a new 8-week course that focuses on single pieces selected from six ukulele composers and teachers in Spain, UK, and USA: Choan Gálvez, Lindsay Higgs, Paul Mansell, Tony Mizen, Colin Tribe, and Jeff Weinberger. Learn effective approaches to studying new pieces with optimal fingering and fingerpicking technique. The tuition includes all sheet music used in this class. Prerequisite: ability to read tablature and play with PIMA fingers.

Testimonials

from students of previous fingerstyle ukulele courses with Anne

Anne is such a great teacher. She has the ability to take a piece of music that initially looks daunting and break it down so that you both understand the music, and learn to play it. She is endlessly enthusiastic and encouraging. It’s like having your own private mentor, cheerleader, and coach in a group setting.

The Online Pluck class via Zoom was great! We had the opportunity to learn many things relating to Fingerstyle Ukulele; exercises, techniques, and songs! Anne works very hard to enrich her classes to reach a lot of different folks across the world! The recordings have been very helpful as well!!! I never came away without having new tidbits to work on for the next week’s class!
