3 Chord Thursday Dance!

Thursday 19th September 2024 is National Dance Day. Of course, we celebrate with songs that make you feel like dancing or are intended to accompany dances. Dance music can be instrumental, such as those in the Baroque period. Put on your dancing shoes and let’s begin!

As usual, we begin promptly at 3 PM EDT with a warm-up exercise (which will not be livestreamed but will be recorded for review for paid subscribers). This exercise focusses on rhythm.

Rest of the Year Pass $55 – valid from 9/1/2024 to 12/31/2024

One of the songs at the Nutmeg Ukulele Jam was “Blame It On the Bossa Nova.” Tom of Kinetic Ukulele kindly shared their song sheet in C for our jam session. Watch the following video to get a sense of the song, including the instrumental introduction. Bring your percussive instruments or use your ukulele to mimic.

We will do the following:

  1. learn the three chord song
  2. play the three chord song by ear
  3. figure out the key to each of the videos below
  4. try different accompaniment possibilities (Calypso, etc)
  5. play, sing, and dance at the same time
  6. modulate (change keys in the same song)
sung by Eydie Gorme in C# Major

It’s a three chord song with C, F and G7 in C major. Can you figure out what the chords are and play along to it? Dance along to the following videos in C Major or C# Major. One of the modulates up.

There are many three chord songs but 3 Chord Thursday is not limited to 3 chords!! We always start with a warm up at 3 pm EDT followed by two poses for a group photo with our sunglasses and ukuleles.
