Celebrate World TV Day on Thursday 21st November 2024 with songs and music from television at 3 Chord Thursday. Can you think of themes from TV shows and soap opera, or jingles from commercials? The warm-up lesson is the themes from Jeopardy Game and the Addams Family. See below.
The theme from Jeopardy is called “Think!” a tune written by Merv Griffin. It can be accompanied by just three chords. But it’s the fingerpicking on a high G ukulele that’s fun. Can you figure out what the chords are? On the repeat, it modulates to a different key each time. Do you know what the new keys are?
In the past, we hosted many annual Ukulele Jeopardy Games in Zoom. The winning team got their “group photo” illustrated by Eve Myles — i.e. a group caricature. Visit one of these webpages to download the sheet music and song sheet for the Jeopardy Game theme tune – Think!
The Addams Family was first a TV show, a movie, and then a musical (in that order?) The opening theme with the finger snapping is contagious. Did you know it’s a three chord song? There are many ways to play the theme on the ukulele, depending on whether or not you want to make use of the high G string and which position (fret) you want to “hover” over.
Here are some TV theme tunes. How about a mash-up (medley) of 18 TV commercial jingles? Listen to the jingles on the YouTube Playlist.
What time do we meet?
- 21:00 CET (Venice, Italy)
- 20:00 GMT (UK)
- 3:00 PM EST (East Coast USA)
- Noon PST (West Coast USA)

There are many three chord songs but 3 Chord Thursday is not limited to 3 chords!! We always start with a warm up at 3 pm EDT followed by two poses for a group photo with our sunglasses and ukuleles. Then we announce our line-up. If there’s no request beforehand, we take impromptu requests and line them up. We aim to end an hour later at 4 pm EST.
Don’t forget your sunglasses!
