Ukulele exercise for waltz accompaniment

Triple time, triple meter, or three beats to a measure is a characteristic of the waltz as well as other dance forms. Accent or emphasize the first beat. What else can you do to accompany a waltz?

The chords are used in the chorus section of the song “Feed the Birds.”

As mentioned in previous exercises, this one can easily be used on a low G ukulele. The movements are similar.

I specify to use only the thumb, index, and middle fingers (represented by the letters p, i, m) for the fingerpicking or strumming hand (right hand for most people) because these are the strongest fingers and practising this way builds strength and dexterity.

Practice suggestions

These measures are intended to be repeated. Practice at different tempos (tempi). Repeat each section. Accent the first note in each measure.
