Skipping a few notes from “Wander on One” changes the movement from wandering (meandering) to a gallop. “Gallop on First” is a short piece for high G ukulele in 6/8 time. The left hand finger movement should be the same. The two pieces can be played one after another for comparison.

To get into the groove of 6/8 time, accent the first and fourth eighth notes in each measure. This makes the gallop easier to count and track.
Since no other fret is pressed, you can use your index and middle fingers to press the first fret. Alternatively, just use your left index fingers to jump around the first fret.

I am curious which piece is easier to play: “Wander on One” or “Gallop on First” ?
“Gallop on First” is one of the 12 pieces I’m writing for Level 2 of the new book “Pick! Pluck! Play! Fingerstyle Ukulele.”
The last page “Ukulele Chords” of the new book contains a table of ukulele chord diagrams ordered alphabetically for the chords used in the book.
I’m thrilled about releasing these two books as a precursors (prerequisite) to the 12 Chinese Zodiac Suite, which contains three skill levels.
I am recording all my new compositions in the 100 Days of Ukulele 2025 project. To me, this challenge means uploading a new video recording of a new piece each consecutive day from 1st March to 8th June 2025.
