Homage to Carcassi and Carulli

Music and memory are intricately connected. The last classical guitar solo piece I loved playing in my teenage years was one by Carcassi in 3/4 time in a minor key. The nylon string guitar my mother bought from a music shop in Okinawa is long gone. Yet, my left hand can still vaguely finger the frets though I don’t remember the title. When I overheard someone playing it in a Zoom lesson recently, I desperately wanted to play it again. What is it called and where is the sheet music?

Three Chord Thursday: ABBA

On 8th July 2021 we will celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of two members of ABBA at Three Chord Thursday at 3 pm EDT. On July 6,1971 Agnetha Fältskog and Björn Ulvaeus married on 6 July 1971 in the village of Verum, with Andersson playing the organ at their wedding.

Three Chord Thursday: Songs that rip off classical music

For this session (the first of its kind), we are inviting you to experience classical music from a ukulele perspective. We think of classical uke as transcriptions and arrangements of the better-known classical music pieces for the ukulele. In addition to this, many pieces from classical music can be accompanied on the ukulele with chords, if chord diagrams or chord names are specified. Some composers are writing music in the classical style for the ukulele. At the same time, many pop songs have chord progressions, rhythms, or other similar features of classical pieces.

You can’t copyright song titles, rhythm, or chord progressions. Many songs use the same chord progressions (chords in the same order). If you’re performing, be prepared to name two other songs that follow the same chord progression that you’re doing. To celebrate these patterns, wear something with a pattern on it.
